26th FAI World Hot Air Balloon Championship 2026

The city of Krosno, located in southern Poland, has been selected to host one of the most respected air sport competitions globally—the Balloon World Championships.
Organised under the authority of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the Championships are held every two years and bring together the world’s top hot air balloon pilots. The event represents the highest level of competition in ballooning and is a key fixture in the international air sports calendar.
First Time in Poland
The upcoming XXVI edition of the Championships will take place in Krosno from 18 to 25 September 2026, marking the first time Poland has hosted this global event. More than 120 hot air balloons from countries across the world are expected to fill the skies above the region, turning Krosno into an international centre for balloon sports for the duration of the championship.
Successful Pre-Championships in 2025
As part of the preparations, World Pre-Championships were conducted in Krosno in May 2025. These events allowed international crews to gain familiarity with local weather, terrain, and flying conditions, while giving residents and visitors an early look at the scale and excitement planned for 2026.
Sport and Spectacle Combined
Beyond competition, the Balloon World Championships are known for their strong public appeal. Thousands of spectators are expected to attend, drawn by the visual spectacle of mass balloon launches and the unique atmosphere surrounding the event. The Championships also play an important role in promoting air sports and highlighting the host city on the global stage.
With proven organisational readiness and growing international attention, Krosno is set to become a major focal point for the global ballooning community in 2026.
